About the firm

Cape Maritime Law is a Cape Town boutique firm concentrating on shipping, international trade, marine insurance and transport law. The firm acts for shipowners, charterers, cargo interests, P&I clubs and freight forwarders on the full range of maritime legal matters arising in Southern Africa and along the East and West African coasts. Established in 2005 by practitioners who had worked in London and Cape Town, the firm combines South African statutory expertise — the Admiralty Jurisdiction Regulation Act, the Ship Registration Act and the domestic law of demurrage and cargo claims — with familiarity with the international conventions governing carriage of goods, salvage and pollution liability.
