About the firm

Stonebridge Chambers is a corporate and commercial firm built around cross-border transactions touching Southern Africa. It advises listed companies, private equity sponsors, development finance institutions and founders on the deals, financings and structures that move capital into and out of the region. The firm was established in 2008 by a group of transactional lawyers who had practised at larger full-service firms and wanted a leaner partnership focused on M&A, banking and private equity. From offices in Sandton and Cape Town, and a transactional desk in Mauritius, it acts on inbound investment, outbound expansion by South African corporates, and the fund structures that increasingly route African capital through offshore holding vehicles. Stonebridge positions itself as a transaction specialist rather than a full-service firm. Where a matter calls for litigation, competition clearance, tax or regulatory advice outside its core, it co-counsels with specialist firms — an approach that keeps fees and conflicts under control on complex multi-jurisdictional work.
